RENTAL PROCESS

Does Back 40 only rent in kits?

Yes, we offer rentals in pre-made kits. Our kits are curated and packed based on the type of rental (backpacking, car camping, or concert camping), however, individual items may be added. We are open to creating custom kits at our discretion. We also honor large group orders.

What are the rental terms? (length of rental, cost)

Whatever you need! We can rent from one night to multi-week trips. Each rental duration is based on the number of nights the gear will be in your possession. Trips longer than seven nights are subject to custom pricing to get you the best deal.

How does Back 40 distribute the gear?

We offer self-serve pick up from drop boxes located in Kent and South Seattle for Backpacking and Car Camping ONLY. This is convenient for locals and travelers alike. And some of our drop boxes are even at breweries! Delivery is possible for a prearranged charge. Orders needed within 24 hours may not be eligible for delivery. Concert Kit bookings are required to be picked up at our store located in Kent unless prearranged and confirmed. 

What if I'm traveling, and my flight is late? 

We are happy to accommodate our traveling guests. We request that you text us with updated travel schedules. We are happy to meet after hours if your ETA is sent when leaving the airport.

 
How do I find out what’s available?

When you click on the "Book Now" button you will be redirected to our booking platform and partner, GeerGarage. You can select the kits you need along with add-on items you prefer. You then enter your reservation details and payment. GearGarage notifies us to complete the booking. Back 40 Outfitters then sends you detailed pick-up/return instructions and contact info for direct communications. (If the rental is within 24 hours, we will do our best to accommodate your request.)

How do I pay for the gear?

Once your order has been confirmed as available your card will be charged through Stripe using GearGarage's secure payment system. This payment will include a small deposit which will be released once the gear has been returned. 

What is the cancellation policy?

Renters are entitled to a full refund of monies paid, less Company’s Service Fee, for all cancellations made by the Renter more than two (2) days prior to the rental start date. If a Renter cancels between two (2) days and one (1) day prior to the rental start date, the Renter is only entitled to a seventy percent (70%) refund of all monies paid, less Company’s Service Fee. Once the rental period starts, the booking is non-refundable. 

Any Renter who wishes to cancel their booking must submit a cancellation request through the website. The cancellation request will be processed according to the foregoing cancellation policy. 

In order to receive any type of refund, cancellations by Renters must be made by 11:59pm local time on the day set forth in the cancellation policy. 

What about clothes, food, toiletries,etc?

You are responsible for these types of items. This is mainly because of preferences and allergies. We do have our favorites, though, and can offer suggestions.

What if I don’t know where to go?

No problem! Our team has a strong understanding of the area, and we can suggest great destinations based on the type of scenery and experience you’re looking for. (We make no skill level assumptions.) 

What should i do with left over food & s upplies?

Back 40 will gladly manage the distribution of your left overs and distribute them to our local food bank, shelters, schools and houseless community. We also provide a "give & take" box for our clients to pay it forward to future campers. Popular shareable items include sunscreen, bug spray, and alcohol.
